I gave Shadow Girl four stars. When Mei's abusive father decides to leave and never come back. Mei only has her mother and brother left to call family. Randy, her brother doesn't take the change well and spends more time in the streets than with his family. After awhile its just Mei and her mother in there small one bedroom apartment. In high school Mei earns money to help with bills by tutoring kids. Word gets around about Mei's great tutoring and parents start to inquire about hiring her. After graduating high school she decide's to open her own tutoring business for the summer. Mei books her first tutoring job and business is going great. Then she gets a call from the wealthy Mrs.Vanessa Morison. Mei interviews with Vanessa and she is very impressed with Mei's tutoring experience. When it's time to meet Vanessa's daughter, Ella's no where to be found. Vanessa told her that she would meet Ella but she's not there. One of Mei's rules is to always meet the student but she looks past that rule because she's offered double her regular salary to tutor Ella. Vanessa asks Mei a question before finalizing the tutoring position, '' you aren't superstitious, are you?"
