Review of Wires and Nerves by Marissa Meyer

Goodreads Synopsis

When rogue packs of wolf-hybrid soldiers threaten the tenuous peace alliance between Earth and Luna, Iko takes it upon herself to hunt down the soldiers' leader. She is soon working with a handsome royal guard who forces her to question everything she knows about love, loyalty, and her own humanity. With appearances by Cinder and the rest of the Rampion crew, this is a must-have for fans of the series.

My Thoughts

Don't you just love a entertaining graphic novel? Well I sure do. When I finished reading the Lunar Chronicles I always wondered what Iko's next move would be and if she would get her own story. I truly missed the Lunar gang and their adventures so I couldn't wait to pick this up. The graphic illustrations are stunning from the characters to the city settings. Besides Cinder Iko is one of my favorite characters of the series her slick side remarks, charming personality and her great fashion sense will forever keep me hooked to this series.
I recommend this novel for anyone that needs a quick read or needs to get out of a reading slump.
Enjoy.

October TBR Pile

This Is my October TBR pile!!!!!!
Most of the books I picked are thrillers and mystery.
Since Halloween is in the month of October I wanted to keep myself entertained with some dark story's. I had way more books on my list but I tried the first chapter trick and this is what I was left with. Wish me luck because I'm definitely going to need it. Happy reading and Enjoy the month of ghost and goblins.

Review of If There's No Tomorrow

Goodreads Synopsis
A single choice can change everything.

Lena Wise is always looking forward to tomorrow, especially at the start of her senior year. She’s ready to pack in as much friend time as possible, to finish college applications, and to maybe let her childhood best friend Sebastian know how she really feels about him. For Lena, the upcoming year is going to be epic—one of opportunities and chances.

Until one choice, one moment, destroys everything.

Now Lena isn’t looking forward to tomorrow. Not when friend time may never be the same. Not when college applications feel all but impossible. Not when Sebastian might never forgive her for what happened.

For what she let happen.

With the guilt growing each day, Lena knows that her only hope is to move on. But how can she move on when she and her friends’ entire existences have been redefined? How can she move on when tomorrow isn’t even guaranteed?

My thoughts
OK so at first my rating was 3 stars. For now on after I finish a book I need a day or two just to think about how I feel. I'm changing my rating to 4.75 stars!
Honestly, Lena got on my nerves most of the time. Unfortunately Lena's parents separate and they don't hear from there dad for three years. That type of stress can cause an character to be weak and sometimes a dull. What I did like about Lena was her drive to work for what she wants, working during the summer and working after school. I admired that about her. Lena's relationship with her friends Megan and Abby was so cute, it made me feel like I wanted to meet up with them after volleyball practice.

Sebastian, he's the boy that lives next door to Lena. He sneaks into her room at night just to talk. Lena has had feelings for him since forever, literally forever.  I absolutely love Sebastian he's funny, caring and adorable. The slow burn romance kept me on my toes and had me thinking about the book at work hahahaha. The plot of this story was very sensitive and I applaud Armentrout for her emphatic writing. If you want to read a story that is going to have you all twisted up in your feelings, read this!!!

Review of All About Mia

Goodreads Synopsis
One family, three sisters.
GRACE, the oldest: straight-A student.
AUDREY, the youngest: future Olympic swimming champion.
And MIA, the mess in the middle.

Mia is wild and daring, great with hair and selfies, and the undisputed leader of her friends – not attributes appreciated by her parents or teachers.
When Grace makes a shock announcement, Mia hopes that her now-not-so-perfect sister will get into the trouble she deserves.
But instead, it is Mia whose life spirals out of control – boozing, boys and bad behavior – and she starts to realize that her attempts to make it All About Mia might put at risk the very things she loves the most.

My thoughts
Mia Mia Mia girl you are a lot to handle! I enjoyed the story about Mia and her family that consist of her mom, dad and two sisters who are Irish and Jamaican. Mia's older sister Grace is considered the "favorite child". She's great in school she's smart and makes great choices when it comes to her future. Audrey is the baby sister, the best swimmer in her school and everyone thinks she has what it takes to be in the Olympics. Mia is the middle child and doesn't share any of the qualities of her sisters. Mia knows how to dress, do hair, and how to get the attention of everyone. Mia struggles to find her strong points that would build a career. However all she cares about is where the next jumping party is and designing t-shirts for her get away trip with her best friends. When her oldest sister Grace comes home with an announcement all hell breaks lose and Mia is overjoyed. She does all she can to make her older sister fell like a disappointment.

I could absolutely relate to Mia since I have a older brother, most of the time my parents would say ''be more like your brother'' or I would constantly be the one getting in trouble while he sits quietly with a smirk. I was very pleased with the writing, the flow kept me interested through out the book. What I didn't like was Mia's alcohol problem. One of the reasons it took me so long to write a review was because of the authors resolution at the end of the story. I wasn't sure how I felt about it so I needed the time to think. I felt like Mia is a alcoholic and needs help. Yes the ending was good but it would have been better if that was resolved also. This story shows you no one is perfect and having family support can keep a family strong.

Review of The Best Kind of Magic

Goodreads synopsis
Amber Sand is not a witch. The Sand family Wicca gene somehow leapfrogged over her. But she did get one highly specific magical talent: she can see true love. As a matchmaker, Amber's pretty far down the sorcery food chain (even birthday party magicians rank higher), but after five seconds of eye contact, she can envision anyone's soul mate.

Amber works at her mother's magic shop--Windy City Magic--in downtown Chicago, and she's confident she's seen every kind of happy ending there is: except for one--her own. (The Fates are tricky jerks that way.) So when Charlie Blitzman, the mayor's son and most-desired boy in school, comes to her for help finding his father's missing girlfriend, she's distressed to find herself falling for him. Because while she can't see her own match, she can see his--and it's not Amber. How can she, an honest peddler of true love, pursue a boy she knows full well isn't her match?

The Best Kind of Magic is set in urban Chicago and will appeal to readers who long for magic in the real world. With a sharp-witted and sassy heroine, a quirky cast of mystical beings, and a heady dose of adventure, this novel will have you laughing out loud and questioning your belief in happy endings.

My Thoughts
I would give this almost a 4 star rating. I loved Amber's personality! She had me laughing at some of her sarcastic remarks. There were so many different types of characters both human and mystical that are introduced to you throughout the story. Amber's best friend Amani can have visions of someones future but unfortunately Amani doesn't care for her gift. Sadly Amber didn't take after her mom as the next witch in line but she could see into your future and tell you who your soulmate is. Amani and Ambers's relationship reminded me of my high school best friend and how we where a pair before and after school. One of my favorite parts of this story were the weekly witch meetings Amber's mom did at the Windy City Magic Shop.  This was a fun and quick read. I would love to read book 2.

Review of Shadow Girl

I gave Shadow Girl four stars. When Mei's abusive father decides to leave and never come back. Mei only has her mother and brother left to call family. Randy, her brother doesn't take the change well and spends more time in the streets than with his family. After awhile its just Mei and her mother in there small one bedroom apartment. In high school Mei earns money to help with bills by tutoring kids. Word gets around about Mei's great tutoring and parents start to inquire about hiring her. After graduating high school she decide's to open her own tutoring business for the summer. Mei books her first tutoring job and business is going great. Then she gets a call from the wealthy Mrs.Vanessa Morison. Mei interviews with Vanessa and she is very impressed with Mei's tutoring experience. When it's time to meet Vanessa's daughter, Ella's no where to be found. Vanessa told her that she would meet Ella but she's not there. One of Mei's rules is to always meet the student but she looks past that rule because she's offered double her regular salary to tutor Ella. Vanessa asks Mei a question before finalizing the tutoring position, '' you aren't superstitious, are you?"

I hope word spreads about Liana Liu's new novel and people give it a go.-Happy reading

Review of Love, Hate & Other Filters

Goodreads Synopsis
A searing #OwnVoices coming-of-age debut in which an Indian-American Muslim teen confronts Islamophobia and a reality she can neither explain nor escape--perfect for fans of Angie Thomas, Jacqueline Woodson, and Adam Silvera.

Maya Aziz is torn between futures: the one her parents expect for their good Indian daughter (i.e.; staying nearby in Chicago and being matched with a "suitable" Muslim boy), and the one where she goes to film school in New York City--and maybe, just maybe, kisses a guy she's only known from afar. There's the also the fun stuff, like laughing with her best friend Violet, making on-the-spot documentaries, sneaking away for private swimming lessons at a secret pond in the woods. But her world is shattered when a suicide bomber strikes in the American heartland; by chance, he shares Maya's last name. What happens to the one Muslim family in town when their community is suddenly consumed with hatred and fear?

My thoughts

I need everyone to get this book on January 2018!!!
The way Ahmed described Mays's Muslim parents was on point, I have Muslim friends and the story's they tell me are identical. This book made me Laugh, cry and stand up..... YES stand up lol. I was so excited to meet the author Ms.Ahmad at Bookcon and snag this ARC but now I have to meet her again to tell her, "I love your book".

Review of The winner's curse

Goodreads synopsis

Winning what you want may cost you everything you love...

As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.

Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart.

My thoughts
WOW I must say that ending was so surprising. I am now a fan of Ms. Routkoski's writing I was hooked from chapter one. What I didn't like was the insta love! Come on Kestral you fell in love the first 10 mins of the book but I still love you girl. Kestral is smart, beautiful and fearless I cant wait to see what Kestral will do next in book two.

Review of Down among the sticks and bones.

Goodreads Synopsis
Twin sisters Jack and Jill were seventeen when they found their way home and were packed off to Eleanor West’s Home for Wayward Children.

This is the story of what happened first…

Jacqueline was her mother’s perfect daughter—polite and quiet, always dressed as a princess. If her mother was sometimes a little strict, it’s because crafting the perfect daughter takes discipline.

Jillian was her father’s perfect daughter—adventurous, thrill-seeking, and a bit of a tom-boy. He really would have preferred a son, but you work with what you've got.

They were five when they learned that grown-ups can’t be trusted.

They were twelve when they walked down the impossible staircase and discovered that the pretense of love can never be enough to prepare you a life filled with magic in a land filled with mad scientists and death and choices.

My Thoughts
I read Every Heart A Door Way about two months ago and I enjoyed it so much. When I started reading Down Among The Sticks And Bones I kept thinking about how EHADW ended. I found Jack and Jill so interesting in EHADW how they are twins but are totally different. I never thought about why Jack was so concerned and kept that extra eye on Jill. Now I know hahaha. My goodness Jill is such a monster on so many levels. Jack is my favorite she actually came a long way form Jacqueline to Jack. I feel like because of the horrible and empty headed parents they had Jack & Jill never could be them selves. I definitely recommend this series and this is one of my 5 star reads for 2017.

I DNF A ARC!!!!

Goodreads synopsis

Vanilla and Hunter have been dating since seventh grade.
They came out together,
navigated middle school together,
and became that couple in high school
that everyone always sees as a couple.

There are complications and confusions, for sure.
But most of all,
they love each other.

As high school goes, though,
and as their relationship deepens,
some cracks begin to show.

Hunter thinks they should be having sex.
Vanilla isn't so sure.

Hunter doesn't mind hanging out with loud, obnoxious friends.
Vanilla would rather avoid them.

If they're becoming different people,
can they be the same couple?

Falling in love is hard.
Staying in love is harder.

My thoughts
WOW I just DNF my first ARC. So the short story on how I received this book. On day two of BookCon at the scholastic booth the reps where handing them out yelling 'this book is only for age 18 and over'. Just looking at the cover I knew this was a LBGTQ read and that was okay with me. I'll admit I had high expectations for this and I really try not to do that at all when starting any book. I was feeling really good about the story because number one I love books in verse, that has to be one of the formats that I enjoy the most. I'm sorry but this story is a little bit too much for me. Please do give it a try! I do want to give a shout out to Billy Merrel for having the courage to put this out.

Review of Dark Matter

Synopsis
“Are you happy with your life?”

Those are the last words Jason Dessen hears before the masked abductor knocks him unconscious.

Before he awakens to find himself strapped to a gurney, surrounded by strangers in hazmat suits.

Before a man Jason’s never met smiles down at him and says, “Welcome back, my friend.”

In this world he’s woken up to, Jason’s life is not the one he knows. His wife is not his wife. His son was never born. And Jason is not an ordinary college physics professor, but a celebrated genius who has achieved something remarkable. Something impossible.

Is it this world or the other that’s the dream? And even if the home he remembers is real, how can Jason possibly make it back to the family he loves? The answers lie in a journey more wondrous and horrifying than anything he could’ve imagined—one that will force him to confront the darkest parts of himself even as he battles a terrifying, seemingly unbeatable foe.

From the author of the bestselling Wayward Pines trilogy, Dark Matter is a brilliantly plotted tale that is at once sweeping and intimate, mind-bendingly strange and profoundly human—a relentlessly surprising science-fiction thriller about choices, paths not taken, and how far we’ll go to claim the lives we dream of.

My thoughts

I decided to read this with the audio book. What a great decision I made getting the audio book. While listening, it felt like I was watching a movie without any images. I would have to say this is probably one of my first adult mystery novels. It won't be the last thanks to Mr.Crouch.

In the beginning you meet Jason's wife and son a happy family having dinner . But is Jason happy?
Would he if he could go back in time and make some different choices?
