Review of Between the devil and the deep blue sea

You stop fearing the devil when you’re holding his hand…

Nothing much exciting rolls through Violet White’s sleepy, seaside town… until River West comes along. River rents the guest house behind Violet’s crumbling estate, and as eerie, grim things start to happen, Violet begins to wonder about the boy living in her backyard.

Is River just a crooked-smiling liar with pretty eyes and a mysterious past? Or could he be something more?

Violet’s grandmother always warned her about the Devil, but she never said he could be a dark-haired boy who takes naps in the sun, who likes coffee, who kisses you in a cemetery... who makes you want to kiss back.

Violet’s already so knee-deep in love, she can’t see straight. And that’s just how River likes it.

My thoughts:  For some reason I thought this book was  about a girl that falls in love with the Devil. MAJOR LET DOWN LOL. Thankfully I did enjoy this read, I just love the main character Violet. She is forced to grow up and be the lady of the house since her parents are away in Paris and her dear grandmother Freddie passed away. I really loved how she dressed in Freddie's clothing and kept her room exactly the same like she never left. I thought renting the guest house was extremely smart since her and her brother Luke had hardly anything to eat and $0 to their name. Then a "old new car" pulls into the driveway of Citzen Kane, like a 1950's car. River West is his name. I don't want to say much because I rather you think it's a book about a girl that falls in love with the devil too.
P.S please read this book with an open mind I think the ending was worth the wait.

Review of Dorothy Must Die By Danielle Paige

But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado - taking you with it - you have no choice but to go along, you know?

Sure, I've read the books. I've seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little bluebirds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can't be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There's still a yellow brick road - but even that's crumbling.

What happened? Dorothy.

They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.

My name is Amy Gumm - and I'm the other girl from Kansas.

I've been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked.

I've been trained to fight.

And I have a mission.

My Thoughts:It took me a longggggg time to finish this book I'm not sure if its because the book started slow or just responsibilities in life made me put the book down. This version of Wizard of Oz is twisted, bloody and straight fucked up. The main character Amy is bullied at school by a pregnant classmate, hates her mom and hates that her dad left her to make a family else wear. Once the tornado comes and Amy is left alone in a trailer with her pet mouse she thinks her life is over. But her trailer lands in the world of Oz.

As Mira struggles to make sense of the many fractures in her family's fabric and redefine her wavering sense of self, she must find a way to reconnect with her dad–while there is still time.

My Thoughts
There are three things I loved about this book.
One was the writing formation, it's so different and impressive. I think Ms Jensen writes beautifully with so much emotion.
Second thing is how much detail there is with like 10 words on the page! Its crazy but I like how the story was straight to the point and with great meaning.
Third thing is the lesson you learn at the end. Every day & every minute counts when you are losing a loved one. Don't waste the time holding a grudge or being angry.
I liked the main character Mira, I fealt like  I was in her shoes I would probably react the same way she did.
